“Experiencing the finished house is always a delight, when the assemblage of all the parts come together to create an atmosphere beyond any pre-conceived notions. It is the qualities of the light, the shadows, the breezes through the house, the temperature control and the acoustics that really complete the project.”
King Street Residence has been featured in the latest The Architect publication along with 9 other beautiful Western Australian projects. Download a copy here or buy a copy in print from Boffins Bookstore….

In June we were thrilled with the news that David Barr had been appointed to Western Australia’s first State Design Review panel.
“Western Australia’s new State Design Review Panel has begun, and will now assess a range of significant public and private projects from a design perspective.

David Barr Architects were pleased to attend this week's launch of the first three Design WA publications: State Planning Policy 7.0 - Design of the Built Environment; State Planning Policy 7.3 R-Codes Volume Two (Apartments); and a Design Review Guide. The documents, which become operational on the 24th of May, are a much needed collection that establish high level principles for the design of our built environment, modernise the R Codes for better apartment design, and, critically, offer guidance for councils in the establishment and operation of design review panels. All three will assist Western Australia in achieving a high quality, sustainable and diverse built environment.
As collaborators on the drafting of State Planning Policy 7.3, and illustrators of much of its graphic content, we know how much effort, thought and passion went into the documents from all concerned. We congratulate all those involved, particularly the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage. As part of Design WA's second stage, we are now working on a comprehensive Precinct Design Policy with Urbis, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and we look forward to its eventual publication.

David Barr Architect’s Submission
We are delighted that our client’s co-housing proposal has made it to the next round of the ACT Government’s Demonstration Housing Expression of Interest process.
In an effort to test new ways of responding to density and growth the ACT Government is seeking development proposals that target affordability, environmental performance and innovative design. We think our client’s vision of small sustainable houses with shared living spaces and gardens would be a fantastic addition to the suburbs of Canberra. We are excited to work with them on the next stage of the design.
